“The One to Come”…Happy Birthday Church!!
In early spring, Passover is celebrated world-wide by Jews and Christians alike.
There is a tradition in the Seder liturgy commonly known as the “Afikomen”. Afikomen literally means “The One to Come”. The Afikomen portion of the Seder involves gathering 3 pieces of whole matzoh (unleavened bread – used strictly on Passover) and breaking the 2nd piece of matzoh, wrapping 1/2 of it in white linen, and “hiding it/burying it” in a secret place inside the house. The children participating in the family seder are then let loose to arduously search and find the Afilomen. When a child finds it there is a great celebration by the participating adults and the child receives a prize! If this is not a picture of eternal salvation, and finding Jesus; I do not know what is!? However, the salvation story doesn’t end there. There is another (2nd) “Afikomen” that is hardly spoken of: It’s about the promise by Jesus to his disciples and the world. In Luke 24:49, on the Day of First Fruits (Reshit Katzir) – the day He was resurrected from the hidden place – the grave. Jesus appears to his disciples and tells them to wait in Jerusalem until the promised Comforter was given to them! This promised Afikomen (Holy Spirit) was, indeed, faithfully poured out on His disciples and a myriad of other God-fearing Jews 50 days later in Jerusalem. We call this event Shavuot (commonly known as Pentecost). On this second great Feast, two loaves of regular bread (bread containing yeast – a symbol of sin) are waved up to The Lord by the high priest, symbolizing the promised gift being given to Jew and Gentile becoming one in Messiah (Ephesians 2: 11-13). Interestingly enough, the Torah was also given to Moses and The Hebrew nation on Mount Zion on Pentecost; only approximately 2,000 years earlier…Such a coincidence, no!? LOL:) On behalf of our Christian Insurance Services Team and I, we would like to wish you “Hag Sameach Shavuot!” (Happy Pentecost) and Happy Birthday to The Messiah’s Church!!!
Faithfully,
Ron
